Tasting notes

100% Muscat Lunel Grapes

Delightful notes of honey and peaches, delicate and graceful on the palate with traces of citrus fruits and spices. Very elegant and refreshing with a crips, long finish. Perfectly balanced. The acids keep the wine round and lengthy.

Enjoy with fruit based desserts, some blue cheese or on its own.

Recommended serving temperature: 12 Celsius Degree

To make the famous aszú wine, botrytized (aszú) grapes are hand-picked and collected in dedicated containers throughout the harvest in several rounds during several weeks. At the end of the harvest they are soaked in a „base wine” made from normal (un-botrytized) grapes. They leave the berries in the base wine from 12 hours till up to 3 days, then they press the juice and fill it in oak barrels where it will ferment further and will age for at least 18 months.

On most aszú wines you will find a number with the word "puttonyos", which basically defines the amount of aszú berries mixed into the wine. In the old times they used the puttony (backpack) to measure the amount of aszú berries mixed with one Gönci barrel (136 liters) of base wine. So as an example, the 3 puttonyos wine had 3 backpacks worth of aszú berries in one barrel of fresh wine, the 4 puttonyos had 4 backpacks, etc. The concentration of aszú berries in the wine defines the taste intensity and sugar level. You can find 3-4-5-6 puttonyos aszú wines. The lowest level, the 3 puttonyos, needs to have minimum 60 grams residual sugar / liter, the highest level, the 6 puttonyos, has a minimum of 150 grams / liter sugar level.

Pauleczki Winery

Pauleczki winery has been producing wine with the heritage of several generations. It is located in the village of Tolcsva in the middle of the historical wine region of Tokaj. All wines are handcrafted following the traditional procedures of the region and are matured in wooden barrels in cellars located in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Grapes are cultivated on 20 hectares across the exceptional, 1st class vineyards of Budaházi, Serédi and Kincsem (My Treasure).

The golden wire sleeve, that can be found on their bottles, are the trademark of the company. Tolcsva Winery is exclusively authorized to use this design on the well-known 0.5l Tokaji bottles.

The winery is famous for their „Muscat Lunel” Aszú wines. They cultivate Yellow Muscat on 90% of their lands which is completely unusual in the region, as Tokaj is mainly dominated by another grape type, the Furmint. Cultivation of Yellow Muscat poses a higher production risk, however it has a unique, elegant flavor that makes these wines really special. The procedures of winemaking in the winery is driven by the traditional values of Tokaj and by the focus on exceptional quality. Once you smell the fruity and floral bouquet of these beautiful muscat lunel wines you will for sure fall in love with them!
